LinkARTiculate English | Three poems by Asian-Australian poets: Using language to understand the self
Tuesday 10 June, 5 – 6pm | Webinar
HSC Standard Module A: Language, Identity and Culture
HSC EAL/D Module B: Language, Identity and Culture
Presenter: Dr Matthew Sussman
Poetry has long provided a way for people to tell stories about who they are and where they come from. But what specific resources does poetry offer to meet the expressive needs of a modern multicultural society like Australia? In this webinar, we will examine how three contemporary Asian-Australian poets use language in careful and characteristic ways to depict complex dramas of self-discovery, identity, and belonging, revealing how the self cannot be understood apart from the words we use to articulate it.
ARTiculate Economics | Trade wars: Will tariffs make anyone great again?
Wednesday 20 August, 5 – 6pm | Webinar
HSC Topic One - The Global Economy
HSC Topic Two – Australia’s Place in the Global Economy
Presenter: Associate Professor Gareth Bryant
Donald Trump’s tariffs are upending the global economic order as we know it. After decades of globalisation, a trade war between the world’s two largest economies, the US and China, is reverberating through supply chains, financial markets and international institutions. This interactive talk will draw on a range of different economic lenses and data points to reconsider the arguments for free trade versus economic protectionism in the Trump era. It will demonstrate how a political economy approach is essential for understanding the forces that are shaping the future of the global economy, and Australia’s place in it, in highly uncertain times.
Our ARTiculate topics are developed in consultation with high school teacher communities. Please share your ideas by submitting an expression of interest form for our 2025 offerings, or by emailing our team directly at [email protected].
